Sisters
By Natalia in illustration
This is a picture of my mom and aunts from Australia. They visited for a month and a half (Thanksgiving through Christmas). We had loads of fun and there was even a trip to NYC! Having them visit really reminded me how much family means to me. I hope to visit them in Australia in the next few years.
Coworker Holiday Gifts
By Natalia in illustrationHappy New Year!
Ok, It’s already February and this is my first post! Here is a quick update. It’s been busy this New Year at work and I’ve been doing a lot of TV series watching on Netflix (if you ever need any recommendations for series, just let me know). Also, my printer/scanner is broken so there is no scanning to be had. Also, I have been experimenting with a gouache set that I bought myself and have quickly learned that I don’t know what i’m doing. I’ll try to scan some of my gouache “doodles” at work and get them up here. It took a whole month but i’m finally getting more motivated. I have no specific New Year’s resolutions but productivity is the theme.
Anyway, over the holidays, my coworkers and I had a present exchange. I decided that one of the presents where caricature portraits of my coworkers. They really enjoyed them which made me happy! Most of them have their framed portraits displayed on their desks.

Pinterest!
By Natalia in generalPinterest is a new online addiction of mine. It’s a place that you can visually categorize all the interesting images you find on the internet and within Pinterest itself.

I have multiple boards, including recipes, fashion, illustration, design, hair, patterns—it goes on. It’s amazingly time-wasting and amazingly addictive. Give it a try!
If you are already on Pinterest. Follow me! And I always look forward to interesting follows.
Happy Halloween!
By Natalia in illustrationHello everyone! I hope that your weekend was filled with fun Halloween festivities! I sent a Halloween postcard to friends and family to bring a little fun to their mailboxes.

I had a more complicated idea initially but I was frustrated using my Wacom tablet and scraped it all together. This was more fun to illustrate! I will need to practice drawing with the tablet! I printed these on my home computer as postcards & sent them out to friends and family.
Hadly & Adam
By Natalia in illustrationToday at work, a wedding party will be thrown for Hadly and Adam. For the email invite I drew a picture of them as a surprise. I referred to Facebook photos of the happy couple to get an accurate portrait. I think I did a fairly good job, especially on Adam, who I see everyday at work.
This is only part of the email invite as I removed most of the text. It’s too late for you to come anyway! Good luck to the happy couple in the future!
Happy Birthday, Maeve!
By Natalia in illustrationFor Maeve’s birthday, I wanted to customize a card for her so I drew her on her yellow scooter:
I enjoyed drawing something that wasn’t so organic, though I doubt the scooter i drew was extremely accurate. Maeve seemed to enjoy the image and I also created wrapping paper by shrinking the image and tiling it onto some paper.
Curious Doodles
By Natalia in craftsChristmastime is coming fast and I wanted to share my friend Laura’s shop, Curious Doodles
to help you on your shopping adventures. Laura creates unique handmade goods with screen printing and embroidery which can add a little personality to your home, greetings and style.
Here are a couple of examples of her work:
Go to her Etsy store to get shopping! Or you can follow her on her blog.
Design*Sponge Crafting Workshop
By Natalia in craftsGrace Bonney of Design*Sponge came to Dallas last night to promote her book, Design*Sponge at Home. I attended the craft workshop and book signing event with my friends and had a great time meeting new people and trying out a new craft. The craft workshop consisted of using freezer paper to create a stencil to decorate on West Elm provided napkins. Here is how mine turned out:

I feel like it turned out as outhwest-themed chevrons, though it was unintentional. I’m very happy with the result.
Design*Sponge at Home so far is a very good book with lots of inspiration for interior decorating—go check it out!
Circus?
By Natalia in illustrationI have been doodling lately trying to figure out a theme for a series of prints that I can produce and share. Here are one of the doodles. Maybe a circus theme? Maybe. I’m fairly sure that the theme will involve animals, since animals are my favorite thing to draw. I need to challenge myself and pick animals that aren’t so comfortable for me to draw. For now, here is a picture of an elephant on a wire.
Katy & TJ’s Wedding
By Natalia in illustrationMy coworker asked me to draw some pictures for her sister’s wedding invitation and here are the few things I cam up with. Hopefully when my coworker gets the invitations in I can show you how it was arranged!

Mary Blair
By Natalia in inspirationOne of my favorite illustrators (though I got on her bandwagon kind of late) has to be Mary Blair. She was a concept artist for Disney and her design & illustration was inspiration in many Disney films and rides at Disneyland (notably the It’s a Small World ride) Here illustrations are deceptively simple and she has very smart and interesting use of color.
I recently went to Disneyland and there was a Mary Blair exhibit on Main Street. I also got a sweet t-shirt. If you have a chance to go to Disneyland, please check it out!
