Ernesto Neto at the Nasher

One of the advantages of working at the Dallas Museum of Art is that we are in the middle of the Arts District of Dallas. Not only can we visit our own museum, but others close by. This past week, a few coworkers and I visited the Nasher Sculpture Center to experience the installation of Ernesto Neto’s Cuddle on the Tightrope. Ernesto Neto has “gained acclaim for his large experiential environments that dramatically alter our surroundings, engage the senses, and invite interaction”. What we gained from it was an engaging and tactile experience that was very fun. As you walk across the bridge you have to cling to the crotched rope or risk being swallowed into the crevaces.

Glory of the Age Invites

Another project I finished recently was the Affair of the Art fundraiser invites. The theme for this year’s theme was Glory of the Age, which celebrated 1920s on behalf of the Youth and Beauty exhibit. I did research on the Twenties and tried to replicate the style and feel in these invites. It was very exciting because it was my shiniest project yet! I’m pretty proud of what I accomplished.

Gaultier Exhibition Invites

One of the cooler exhibits that came to the DMA was Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk. It was a great exhibit featuring Gaultier’s fashion design over the years covering many different styles.

It was a very successful and amazing show. One of my most intensive projects of the fall was the invitations for this particular exhibit. I had to use Gaultier’s stripe motif but still be creative with them. I tried to utilize a “Welcome to Texas” theme with a few of them.

Oldie but goodie: Adam’s California Survival Kit

One of the design projects I am fairly proud of was the first-aid kit that I made Adam when he went to California for grad school. I designed it over a period of time during breaks at work and free moments at home. I wanted to give the first-aid kit a vintage California feel but still look medicinal. It’s not a very complicated concept but I enjoyed designing it and he still uses it to this day.

Since Adam is currently my boyfriend I thought i’d make a good Valentine’s Day post. Happy Valentines’s Day everyone!

This is a picture of my mom and aunts from Australia. They visited for a month and a half (Thanksgiving through Christmas). We had loads of fun and there was even a trip to NYC! Having them visit really reminded me how much family means to me. I hope to visit them in Australia in the next few years.

Coworker Holiday Gifts

Happy New Year!

Ok, It’s already February and this is my first post! Here is a quick update. It’s been busy this New Year at work and I’ve been doing a lot of TV series watching on Netflix (if you ever need any recommendations for series, just let me know). Also, my printer/scanner is broken so there is no scanning to be had. Also, I have been experimenting with a gouache set that I bought myself and have quickly learned that I don’t know what i’m doing. I’ll try to scan some of my gouache “doodles” at work and get them up here. It took a whole month but i’m finally getting more motivated. I have no specific New Year’s resolutions but productivity is the theme.

Anyway, over the holidays, my coworkers and I had a present exchange. I decided that one of the presents where caricature portraits of my coworkers. They really enjoyed them which made me happy! Most of them have their framed portraits displayed on their desks.

Pinterest is a new online addiction of mine. It’s a place that you can visually categorize all the interesting images you find on the internet and within Pinterest itself.

I have multiple boards, including recipes, fashion, illustration, design, hair, patterns—it goes on. It’s amazingly time-wasting and amazingly addictive. Give it a try!
